How to Speed up Windows VistaWindows Vista comes with an entire section of its Control Panel dedicated to speeding up Windows called Performance Information and Tools. While much of the standard advice (run a registry cleaner, defrag the hard drive, clean up the disk, etc.) still applies and can help speed up Windows Vista, the Performance Information and Tools center is an excellent starting point. Additional tools such as Ready Boost and the Memory Diagnostics Tool are also useful in speeding up Vista. Windows Vista Performance Information and Tools When you first launch Performance Information and Tools, you will notice a performance score known as the Windows Experience Index. This score is based on your computer’s hardware only and the lowest score becomes your base score. The only way to bring this score up is by upgrading your low-scoring hardware. However, you can still speed your PC by using the other tools found here. The Tasks list provides you with links to:
Each link takes you to a dialog box where you can make performance boosting tweaks. Visual effects and excessive startup programs are responsible for dragging down the performance of many Vista computers, so those are excellent places to start. Go through each task and adjust your computer for optimal performance. The Advanced Tools link takes you to another section where you will find a series of performance monitors, reports, and other tools. Many of these tools are designed for troubleshooting or general performance information though a link to the Disk Defragmenter is found here. Click each link and become familiar with the data provided – it could come in handy one day. The Reliability and Performance Monitor is like a more complex version of Task Manager with real-time resource usage graphs, reports, and other historical system information. The System Stability Chart provides you with a graphical view of failures which can help you pinpoint which applications, hardware, or system components are adversely affecting your computer. ReadyBoost Windows Vista comes with a new memory boosting utility called ReadyBoost. This utility works in conjunction with a USB device. When you insert a ReadyBoost-compatible USB device into your computer, the AutoPlay Wizard will prompt you to enable ReadyBoost to speed up Windows Vista. ReadyBoost will then use the amount of USB storage space that you specify as system RAM. As you know, adding memory is one of the best ways to speed up a computer and with ReadyBoost you can quickly and easily do this on a temporary basis. Memory Diagnostics The Memory Diagnostics tool is built into Windows Vista (and is also available for download from Microsoft). While it won’t repair memory problems or speed up your PC, it will let you know if your computer’s sluggishness is related to physical problems with the memory. Run this tool by typing “memory” into the Search bar and clicking the Memory Diagnostics icon when it appears. You will either need to schedule the tool to run later or allow it to shut down your system and run right now. By ruling out physical memory issues, boosting your existing memory with ReadyBoost, and adjusting the items listed in the Performance Information and Tools center, your Vista computer’s performance should improve dramatically. Windows tune-up tool, works wonders ... Id appreciate more simple software programs like this, sure makes life easier ... Microsoft probably has a function to do a cleanup like this too, but like everything else- good luck finding it ... And another one bites the dust, You'll want to keep this great program and dump all those other Windows speeder upper tools ... WOW!!! As soon as you reboot, you could see a night and day difference in start-up and program loading speed ... COMPANY AWARDS
