How to speed
up windows booting time
Computers that are slow to boot Windows and get the operating system up
and running can frustrate the most serene PC users.
Here are some tips to optimize your Windows boot up performance and
maximize your computer’s speed.
An easy way to improve your Windows performance is to make some simple
adjustments in the BIOS – the Basic Input/Output System – where the
computer’s most basic instructions are stored that allow the computer to
initiate the most basic commands, such as turning on, booting the
operating system and retaining time. It can be risky to make changes to
the BIOS, so be careful, and be sure that you are confident moving
forward.
-
Turn the computer off, wait 30 seconds, and then reboot
-
When the computer is turning on, initiate the command to enter the
BIOS – this can vary between computer manufacturers – try pressing
F1, F10 or the DEL key – you can check the computer’s manual or
search online for your computer’s specific command.
-
Once the BIOS opens, use the keyboard arrow keys to move to the BOOT
menu and then Enter
-
If possible, choose Quick Boot, then Enter
-
You should see an option for Boot Device Priority – use the arrows
again to set the first device to the hard drive. ***if you need to
boot from CD in the future, you will need to re-set this setting to
CD-ROM***
-
Choose Exit and Save Changes – this will cause the computer to
reboot
